engine noise
It could be water pump bearings on the way out, or worst-case scenario coul dbe a loose timing chain. Does it do it with the engine at idle?

Crank Case Breathers
Hi I am currently building a fast Road 1380 cc engine for my mini but am a bit confused about the crank case breathers i know there is normally one on the flywheel housing and one on the timing chain cover, however i have two flywheel housings and the better one does not have a hole or bolt holes for the crank Case breather, also i am putting a belt drive conversion on the engine which also does not have a crank case breather. So my question is do i realy need a breather or will it be ok without.
Thanks In Advance

Engine
hi this is my first post and hoping someone can help me..I have brought a 1989 mini to get back of the road and enjoy.
the prob I have is I went to check the timing with a strobe light but the timing marks on the timing chain casing ain't where they should be..every where I have looked say that the pointer are just above the crank where as on my engine they are at the bottom..does anyone no what car my engine is out of?? As I no being am a series engine they where used in a lot of cars
cheers for any replies

timming belts
I belive you refer to a HI-VO type chain like the type used in bikes rather than the simplex or duplex chains used on the originals. If fitting this type you will need to replace the sprockets as well as these resemble gears with pointed teeth rather than sprockets that have rounded teeth like a push bikes.
that is if there is a kit available for this conversion
you may also be refering to a timing belt of the multi-V variety such as on ford mondeos, etc, if so , forget it as the timing belt goes inside the engine and gets covered in oil! not a good place for a belt that relies on friction and will get attacked and "eaten" by the oil in any case....
P.S your spelling needs work!....timming?......teath?.....etc..
